Cari Italians and Friends,
In un trionfo di musica, balli e canti, 200 Italians sono intervenuti venerdi’ sera all’ Musicaperitivo di Italians in DC al Tenley Bar & Grill in supporto della ricostruzione di Amatrice.
Erano tutti belli e compatti, tanto che mi hanno ricordato una scena del film La Grande Bellezza, di Sorrentino.
E cosi’ lo era il gruppo I-talians che ci ha accompagnato tutta la sera con canzoni dei grandi artisti Italiani.
Bravissimi e divertenti.
Con questa serata si conclude il fund raising del fondo Washington Friends of Amatrice che ha raccolto circa $5,000.
Dico circa perche’ stiamo ancora contando, ma vi daremo al piu’ presto l’ammontare esatto.
Questo risultato va oltre le nostre stime iniziali, e per quanto si possa pensare che questa cifra non possa avere un impatto, vi posso assicurare che per chi ha perso tutto, la casa, la famiglia o gli amici, ogni dollaro conta.
Per questo vogliamo essere sicuri che il nostro contributo andra’ direttamente nelle mani degli Amatriciani, perche’ nessuno meglio di loro sa’ dove i soldi devono essere spesi.
Magari decideranno di allocare 100 euro ad ogni famiglia dislocata e comprare dei giocattoli per i loro piccoli. Anche questo fa parte della riscostruzione.
Nella prossime settimane vi daremo piu’ dettagli sul canale che ci portera’ diretti alle famiglie di Amatrice. Stiamo raccogliendo possibili progetti da finanziare che sceglieremo poi insieme a voi.
Se foste al corrente di persone e/o iniative da aggiungere alla nostra lista fateci sapere e saremi felici di includerle nelle opzioni.
Intanto ringrazio di cuore tutti gli Italians che hanno contribuito a questo fund raising, cosi’ come il Y2Y (I giovani della Banca Mondiale) che si sono uniti a noi con un evento dedicato al nostro fondo,
al ristorante Il Canale per la sua donazione; a Le Tomate, Radici, Tenley Bar & Grill, e il Local 16 per averci ospitato e aver versato una parte dei loro incassi al fondo.
I nostri cuori e preghiere rimangono con chi ha perso tutto, amici, famiglia, la casa. Non c’e’ rimedio che possa mai compensare queste tragedie.
Il mio desiderio e’ che i fondi raccolti e l’energia di venerdi’ sera, cosi’ come nelle altre serate devolte al fundraising, volino da Washington verso Amatrice accendendo un sorriso, e che questa gente sappia che non sono soli.

In a triumph of music, dance and song, 200 Italians gathered Friday night at the MusicAperitivo of Italians in DC, at Tenley Bar & Grill, in support of the reconstruction of Amatrice.
As the group I-Talians took us through a repertoire of great Italian songs, I was reminded of a scene from the movie The Great Beauty, by Sorrentino. Everyone projected affection and hope- coming together as only Italians in DC can when called on for support.
With this evening we conclude the fund raising activities of the Washington Friends of Amatrice, which raised through a series of events around $5,000. I say “around” because we are still counting, but an exact amount will be provided at the soonest.
This result goes beyond our initial hopes, and as much as one might think this amount may not have significant impact, I can assure you it will. For those who have lost everything- their homes and most especially, loved ones… every single dollar counts. In the coming weeks we will provide additional details.
We are going to make sure that our contribution will go directly in the hands of the Amatriciani (people from Amatrice) because nobody else knows best where the money should be spent. Perhaps they will choose to allocate 100 euro to every displaced family and buy toys for their children. This is also part of the reconstruction.
We are putting together a list of possible projects to finance, and we will choose with you the one that we like the most. Let us know if you are aware of projects that you would like to add to the list.
In the meantime, warmest thanks to the following: Italians in DC team and board, Italians supporters that contributed to this fund, Y2Y (the young group of the World Bank) who united in support with a dedicated event, the restaurant Il Canale who supported with a donation, our hospitality sponsors who also made direct contributions – Le Tomate, Radici, Tenley Bar & Grill and Local 16. Without this show of unity and support- we couldn’t have rallied for our fellow Italians in need.
Our hearts and prayers remain with those who suffered the devastation. There is no fund that can compensate for this tragedy. My wish is that along with our contribution, the heartfelt wishes and positive energy that was present at every event we held will find its way from Washington to Amatrice and light a smile… they are not alone.
