PERFORMANCE INFORMATION:
Washington Concert Opera Presents
Giuseppe Verdi’s Il corsaro
Sunday, March 9th, 6pm
Lisner Auditorium
Il corsaro, which will be performed in Italian with English surtitles, is a story of pirates on the open seas, battles and adventure. Chief pirate Corrado, performed by Michael Fabiano, is torn by the call of the free and glorious lifestyle of the sea and by his true love, Medora (Nicole Cabell). Joining Fabiano and Cabell in the role of Gulnara is the award-winning soprano Tamara Wilson. This opera, filled with loyalty, passion, jealousy, honor, and despair, is epic in scope and musical offerings, yet remains intimate and personal. Artistic Director and Conductor, Maestro Antony Walker, takes the stage for his 11th season with WCO.
Whether you are an opera fanatic or novice to the art form, this performance will thrill you with its grandness and captivate you with its intimate voices.
ABOUT WASHINGTON CONCERT OPERA:
Washington Concert Opera is a professional concert opera company offering internationally acclaimed singers, professional orchestra and chorus in concert versions of rarely heard, full-length operatic works. Founded in 1986, WCO has presented more than 40 operas, featuring world-class singers who regularly appear on the most renowned opera house stages. WCO strives to provide audiences with a unique musical experience and has repeatedly and consistently been acclaimed in the local, national, and international press as one of the finest in the field, designated by critics as “integral to the musical fabric of this city” (Washington Post) and praised as offering “…performances of the highest order” (Opera News).
ABOUT CONCERT OPERA:
Washington Concert Opera’s slogan sums up what a concert opera performance is about…”it’s all about the music.” A concert opera is a complete, full-length opera presented with the soloists, orchestra, chorus and conductor on stage. There are no sets, costumes or (usually) props to distract the eye….and ear….from the operatic score. The focus is entirely on the performers and their dynamic interaction with their audience. There is nothing to upstage the music and dramatic interpretations at hand. It is truly all about the music.
